Rooted Wisdom Africa is a Uganda- and US-based nonprofit organization that invests in communities in rural south-central Uganda. Our mission is to empower children and families in rural Uganda to overcome the constraints of poverty through education and business development.
What We Fight Against: Short-term, unsustainable solutions.
We believe change happens at the local level. Home-grown transformation involves finding and equipping Uganda’s local leaders. This promotes the idea that those living in the community are the experts and know best what could support positive change.
What We Do:We begin by dialogue with the community, and our programs are then adjusted to meet those specific needs. Our five core programs enable knowledge transfer and skill-building.
We Do This By:
- Linking education and enterprise
- Tackling cultural inhibitors
- Creating ownership (literally and figuratively)
- Ongoing assessments and customized, adaptive programming
- Strengthening local ecosystems where community members can share resources, ideas, networking, and knowledge
- Addressing challenges in developing countries through cost-effective approaches. Recognizing that community members living on less than 49 cents a day must be able to afford, replace, and access additional tools as needed, we prioritize solutions that are accessible and sustainable in the long run
