Dirk Lobenbruck

Originally from Germany, Dirk came to the U.S. in the 90s. Before he moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 2023, Dirk had lived in Kansas and California. He is passionate about helping others and strongly believes in transformative change. Dirk does not mind rolling up his sleeves to get things done. He has two B.A. degrees, an M.A., MBA, and a Juris Doctorate degree. His 20+ year professional background is in Human Resources, Legal Affairs, Compliance, Risk Management, Operations, and Audit.

Dirk loves travelling and has been to over 38 different countries. His ideal getaway is a trip off the beaten path, to experience the beauty of other cultures and learn from the locals. Anthropology, his first academic journey when he came to the U.S., has remained his undying love. Together with Cristyn, his wife, he also enjoys hiking, skiing, art, and constantly learning new things — provided that his dog, Snickers, does not hijack all the attention.

Dirk is excited to be part of Rooted Wisdom Africa. He sees it as a unique opportunity to immerse himself into another culture while collaborating on a worthy cause. He was attracted to RWA also because, in his opinion, the Board is a great mix of talented individuals, doing hands-on work while influencing the strategic direction of the organization and working alongside their Ugandan counterparts.

Joanna’s international nonprofit experience includes designing a girl-centered empowerment curriculum still used across rural India. She brings her passion for equity, cross-cultural engagement, and sustainable growth to her role on the Rooted Wisdom Africa Board. In her spare time, Joanna enjoys exploring new breweries with her husband, hiking 14ers, serving as treasurer on the board of her local library, and leading a small group at her church.
