Prossy

From Village Tailor to Thriving Entrepreneur

When Prossy joined Rooted Wisdom Africa’s Women’s Enterprise Training Program, she was a skilled tailor repairing clothes in her village but had never considered turning her sewing skills into a business.
Through business training and startup support, Prossy identified a need for affordable school bags and began producing them for local families. What started as a small village enterprise quickly grew. With additional support from Rooted Wisdom Africa, she rented a sewing room in the town center, dramatically increasing her visibility and sales. In just one school season, Prossy sold 223 school bags—more than double her previous sales—and increased her income by almost 162%.
She used the profits to purchase a new sewing machine, expand her product line, and invest in her family’s future.
Today, Prossy owns land, saves regularly through both a bank account and savings group, and can provide opportunities for her children that were once out of reach. She has also trained two other women in bag-making, helping them build livelihoods of their own.
