Building Wealth and Security
Berna is a graduate of our 2016 Women’s Enterprise Training Program. Her journey began with a humble investment in livestock courtesy of the program’s grant. Today, Berna stands tall as a multi-business owner, tending to a flourishing assortment of cows, chickens, goats, and pigs. Through her endeavors, Berna has illuminated her home with solar lights, granting her family access to electricity and a newfound sense of safety. Remarkably, she now proudly owns two homes, a testament to her hard work and determination. And the cherry on top? Berna is now our landlord, leasing her second home to Rooted Wisdom Africa as our office space. The circle of empowerment is truly complete!
Retirement to Reviving Education
Joyce is a 70-year-old professional teacher. After retiring, the village members asked her to start a
‘baby school’ for preschoolers since there were none in the area. She opened one; however, the school
closed during the pandemic due to inadequate infrastructure. Taking a break, she learned about the
Women’s Enterprise Training Program, enrolled and graduated in 2022. Participants in the Women’s
Enterprise Training Program receive funds and training to help start a business. Joyce invested the
funds to improve the school’s infrastructure, and she reopened the school.
Joyce says, “I felt helpless and hopeless during the pandemic, but my hope was restored through the business fund provided. Today, I have 72 children attending the school.”
Scholarship Recipient to CEO: Mudashiru’s Journey
Mudashiru was one of the first four students Rooted Wisdom Africa ever sponsored in 2006. He was a 14-year-old at St. Denis Secondary School and received a scholarship, school uniform, books, and math set in 2006. For the next ten years, RWA donors provided financial support for Mudashiru’s studies through his graduation with a science degree in Civil Engineering in 2016.
Today, Mudashiru is the CEO of Mudamark Construction and gives back by employing over 190 Ugandans. With 190 employees and the average family household of five members each, 960 people have been impacted by Mudashiru’s ability to remain in school through RWA’s educational programs.
Mudashiru says, “Rooted Wisdom Africa and its donors helped accelerate my journey to success. I am now in a position to help others in Uganda who are in situations like the one I was in as a young boy.”
